Wiiware and Virtual Console Monday: the megaest man edition

Should you have time today to take a break from the hockey action of NHL 2K9, a dose of puzzling, adventure, and platforming come with this week's WiiWare and the Virtual Console update. Check it out: HangZhou Night Net

WiiWare: Strong Bad Episode 2: Strong Badia the Free (1 player, 1000 points or $10)

Second in the Strong Bad series of WiiWare games from Telltale, Strong Badia the Free continues the story from the first episode. Strong Bad, falsley imprisoned, sets out to unite the turbulent forces of his Strong Badia through a collection of mini-games and tons of cameos.

Potpourri (1-2 players, 800 points or $8)

A unique puzzle treat this week, Potpourri focuses on playing with the seasons. I'll let the hilarious press release text explain. "For centuries, the seasons have followed a set pattern. But then things start to go awry in the forest. Suddenly it's snowing while the sun shines and flowers bloom while leaves are falling. Then a strange purple goo appears. The leprechauns are stunned. Even worse, the magic oak of life loses its power. It all turns out to be the fault of an evil wizard. You must help the leprechauns defeat him and restore natural order." Translation: it's a pretty 2D puzzle game with Wii controls.

Virtual Console: Megaman 2 (NES, 1 player, 500 Wii Points or $5)

Megaman 2 is definitely one of the best games in the series, and many would argue it the best. With excellent level designs, some great bosses, and unforgettable music, the game was polished to a blinding sheen and stands the test of time. If you buy only one Megaman game on the Virtual Console, this is the one to get.

There's no better way to prep for Megaman 9 then to relive Megaman 2: for five bucks, that's one of the best buys you can get for your Wii points on the Virtual Console aside from Super Mario RPG. It's also good to see the love for Strong Bad continue. A great week for the Wii.
